Girls’ Spa Day: How to Make an Awesome (and yummy) Avocado-Banana Facial

I've recently been on a health kick, exercising and taking better care of myself; mind, body, spirit--New Year's Resolutions and all--and came across this great recipe for an at home facial. A little secret about myself: I'm a bit of DIY'er. I make my own laundry detergent {and wine ;D}, cook from scratch almost every night and I also have UBER-sensitive skin that hates so many beauty products. I suppose due to the amount of chemicals or fragrances found in many of them. So of course I was all about this 4-ingredient beauty find!

But even more, who doesn't love an at home, relaxing spa-day with the girls? So I've included the full recipe that you'll want to do if the whole crew is in tow as well as broken it down to the single portion as this particular facial recipe won't last more than 24 hours, 48 best in the refrigerator. But I've also found this makes for a pretty awesome chip dip and/or taco condiment if you need to use it up since everything in it is 100% edible and good for you too!

But first a little bit about what each ingredient brings to the table for those of you concerned... "Honey? On my face?" .... YES! So here's the break-down to ease any nervous nellie's:

HONEY = Honey is known for its benefits for acne treatment being naturally anti-bacterial. It also boosts your complexion with it's moisturizing properties and slows down aging with its anti-oxidants.

AVOCADO = Avocados are full of Vitamins A & C which are both great for your skin and is also packed with anti-oxidants and fatty acids to improve skin tone and texture.

BANANA = Bananas are rich in powerful anti-oxidants, phytochemicals and moisture to smooth rough, dry skin. On the flip-side, you can even use bananas alone to help absorb and control oil and reduce breakouts in acne-prone skin.

LEMON = Lemon juice is a natural astringent and works great to reduce the appearance of dark spots and exfoliate skin. Plus it helps as a natural preservative in this recipe to keep the avocado from browning as quickly.

Now on to the recipe!

INGREDIENTS {full batch}
- 2 avocados, pitted and halfed
- 2 bananas, peeled and chopped into segments
- 2 tbsp. honey
- Juice of 1/2 a large lemon

INGREDIENTS {single batch}
- 1/2 an avocado, pitted
- 1/2 a banana, peeled
- 1/2 tbsp. honey
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice

DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Apply generously to your face avoiding the eye area and leave on for anywhere from 5-10 minutes. Rinse off and pat dry. You can store the remaining mixture in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours. It helps it last longer if you store in an airtight container with plastic wrap placed directly on top of the mixture.
