Winter Travels For People Who Hate Winter

We're shining the spotlight on our love of travel this week, and if you're like us you're probably itching to get out of town and do something to get you out of that winter funk. Our Merchandise Planner, Ashley, hit the road last weekend for a winter beach trip to the North Carolina coast and is sharing what to pack to stay warm on those cold winter nights but still enjoy a day on the beach in the middle of January.
I love to travel, and I 100% HATE winter. I find myself wanting to stay cooped up in my apartment with Netflix and coffee through the entire month of January, so as one of my 2015 goals I told myself I'd go at least two places every month. Even if it's somewhere I've been before, or somewhere I vacation frequently, I knew I had to get up and get out. So my friend Morgan and I, along with her adorable Newfoundland puppy Caswell, hit the road for a weekend beach trip to enjoy a few rays of sunshine during the dead of winter. Here's what was in my suitcase to keep my warm and cozy all weekend long...

My favorite thing to pack for any trip is obviously my Yogi Bear Jacket and vest (available in stores), they are the warmest addition to any outfit and totally worth the investment. I wore mine with just a tunic underneath, leggings and my favorite beanie and I wasn't cold at all on the beach! I highly suggest grabbing one of these before they're gone, you won't regret it. Morgan and I enjoyed a day of playing on the beach (it was Caswell's first time seeing the ocean!) and after we had officially worn her out we headed to dinner at one of my favorite beach restaurants. The best part about visiting my favorite places in the off-season is really getting to know the locals that live on the coast year round, so don't count out one of your favorite road trip spots just because the weather is chilly.
For dinner I decided to keep it totally casual, after all it was the beach in January and there wasn't a whole lot going on. I wore my favorite ultra-soft Gemini Cardigan with black denim, a Piko top (available in select stores and online soon) and the Nashville Boot for a cute but dressed-down dinner outfit. Even though it was a short trip it reminded me how much is out there if I use my weekends to really explore my home state. Next stop? Who knows...all I know is I'll probably be ready for another road trip soon-- stay tuned for my next weekend adventure to the mountains and what I'll pack to keep me really warm and cozy in the North Carolina mountains!
