My parents just called me on the way to their annual beach trip with friends to celebrate Valentines Day, their wedding anniversary and my dad’s birthday. This year they will have spent 30 Valentine’s Days, 27 wedding anniversaries and half of my dad’s life together—he’s turning 60 in March. I’d say those milestones certainly call for a celebration.
I’d be lying if I told you it didn’t scare me a
bit lot when right before my mom hung up the phone she said, “promise you’ll call us if you need us this weekend…and we’ll call you if we get hauled off to jail or something!”
I think it’s safe to say, the tables have turned! I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. It seems like just yesterday I was calling them crying with a towed car and no money in my pocket to come pick up me and my girlfriends stranded on the Myrtle Beach Strip. And now my 60 year old parents (ok, ok mom—you’re not 60 yet!) are admittedly having more fun than I am. Guess the ole mantra is true: Just like a fine wine, life gets better with age!
Cheers mom and dad—Don’t call after 11 p.m. I’ll be in bed. I do have to work tomorrow you know!
